Выполнение и оформление контрольных заданий
Контрольные работы включают в себя устные сообщения на определенные темы, задания по грамматике и задания по работе с текстами.

По устным темам необходимо подготовить пересказ. Задания по грамматике, перевод текста и задание к тексту выполняются письменно в отдельной тетради, аккуратно, четким почерком. При этом следует оставлять в тетради поля для замечаний, объяснений и методических указаний рецензента. Выполненное задание направляется для проверки в вуз в установленные сроки или сдается студентом лично в деканат.

Проверка письменно выполненного задания проводится преподавателем, который в зависимости от степени усвоения материала студентом делает заключение: “Допущен к собеседованию” или “На доработку”.
Контрольная работа № 1 включает в себя:
1. Разговорная практика. Устные сообщения и беседа по темам “About Myself” и “My Working Day”.

2. Грамматика: Местоимение. Формы личных и указательных местоимений, притяжательные и неопределенные местоимения. Формы глаголов to be и to have в функции сказуемого. Перевод предложений с оборотами there + be. Временные формы глаголов группы Simple (Indefinite), Continuous, Perfect в действительном залоге.

3. Работа с текстом. Чтение и перевод текста страноведческого содержания. Выполнение заданий к тексту.

I. Устные сообщения и беседа по темам. Это задание является общим для всех вариантов контрольной работы.
Тема 1: About My Family and Myself

Let me introduce myself. My name is Oleg Simonov. I was born on the 15 of October 1988 in Rostov-on-Don. I am 17 years old. This year I have finished school and entered Don State Technical University. Now I am a first-year student. I study at extra-mural department and take my courses by correspondence. In 5 years I shall be an engineer (a manager).

My appearance is ordinary. I am tall, my hair is short, my eyes are green. I go in for sports because it is my goal to have a good figure. I have a lot of interests such as sport, reading and computer. I finished training courses in computer and I think it will help me in my studies and in my work. I am fond of playing computer games. It is my hobby. I have a good collection of different computer games at home.

Now I want to tell you about my family. It is not large. I have got a mother, a father and a sister. My mother is a housewife. She is a kind woman. My mother is 44 but she looks much younger. My father is 46 years old and he is a production manager at the plant. He is a skilled specialist. My father has a good sense of humour. My sister Ann is 25. She is married and has a family of her own. Her husband is a doctor. They have 2 children.

We live in a 3-room flat with all modern conveniences: gas, electricity, hot and cold water, a telephone. Our flat is on the 2nd floor. It is in the center of the city. We have many relatives and friends. We are a friendly family and love each other very much.

I am a first-year student of Don State Technical University. I study at the correspondence department and work at the office.

I’d like to tell you about my working day. As a rule I get up at 7 o’clock in the morning, I wash myself, brush my hair and make my bed. Then I have breakfast. Usually my mother cooks breakfast for me but sometimes I make it myself.

After breakfast, at half past 8 I leave for work. The office where I work is far from my house and it takes me about half an hour to get there by bus.

My working day starts at 9 o’clock in the morning and is over at 6 p.m. I have a break for dinner from 1 till 2 p.m. Usually I have dinner at the café. Sometimes I have a snack at the office. During my working day I look through the correspondence, receive and send e-mail messages and faxes, speak over the phone with business partners and perform other important tasks.

I come home at about 7 o’clock in the evening. Eight o’clock is supper time in our family. We all get together in the kitchen, then go to the living room and watch TV, read books or just talk. At about 11 o’clock I go to bed.

Languages of the Globe
At one of the last world Linguistic Congresses it was reported that people of the Globe spoke almost 3 000 various languages, some of them being spoken by millions of people, others — only by hundreds. Inside this number 13 languages are distinguished as Great ones according to the number of natural speakers. The most widespread language in the world is Chinese. More than 400 mln. people speak English. One of the most expressive, rich and widespread languages is Russian, more than 350 mln. people in various countries speak this language today.

At present the most fashionable languages on the Globe are English and Russian taking into consideration both their distribution rate and volume of printed editions including different books, technical periodicals and newspapers. According to geographical distribution Spanish holds the first place. As to foreign literature in translation, priority is given, first of all, to English and Russian, then to French and German. Today many people start learning Spanish and oriental languages such as Chinese, Japanese and languages of India.

Taking into consideration the distribution rate of several languages including the total number of speakers and states using these languages, the UN (United Nations Organization) chose six languages as its official and workable languages: English, Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish and Arabian. English occupies a special place among them.

Nowadays it is simply essential for people of good will all over the world to know several or at least one foreign language. It is important not only for their personal benefit (use) but also for better understanding between different nations, for learning more about each other history, culture and scientific achievements, for establishing friendly relations and thus for peace and further progress on the Earth.
